About the Workshop

Carly will demonstrate techniques in using oil pastels to create a painting on various surfaces. Each student will receive individual instruction during the day. Students may bring their own oil pastels if they choose but all materials necessary for the workshop will be provided. Students will paint from life. Varied subjects will be provided. No experience with oil pastels is necessary and beginners/advanced artists are welcome!

About Oil Pastels

Oil pastels are a combination of pigment, mineral oil, and wax which is formed into a stick. They are non-siccative and harden with time instead of drying like traditional oils. They can be used on any surface, are not acidic, and there is no change of color from the initial application.

About Carly

Carly Hardy is the founder and coordinator for the online Oil Pastel Society which hosts an annual members only show for oil pastelists. She has written numerous articles for Wet Canvas.com, Daniel Smith Art Supplies, The Oil Pastel Society and Caran d’Ache Oil Pastels. Her paintings have won awards in the Society show and in the New Jersey Oil Pastel Association. She recently published “Oil Pastels Still Life Demonstration”, which is available in softcover or as an ebook from Blurb.com.

Carly’s studio is located in Darien, GA, where she teaches a private Thursday class. She is also an instructor for the Glynn Art Association, St Simon’s Island. She is represented by The Shops @ 107 Broad in Darien. Her online site is carlyhardy.com.
